BIRGIT COMPTON'S
  WEDDING DRESSES -
Page Eleven (a)
The waiting game paid off and finally now six months after the big day we have our hands on Simone Rose's wedding
dress. Despite her initial protestations that she didn’t want to part with it, clearly the fact that it was becoming a burden
on limited her wardrobe space was more important to her than any emotional attachment to it. Some swift negotiations
later and it became the latest addition to our burgeoning collection of wedding gowns. No complaints here at Birgit
Compton HQ about lack of wardrobe space. We know what’s important in life and if it means finding space for about
ten wedding dresses and a similar number of bridesmaids dresses, then that’s a challenge we can easily adjust to.
Simone Rose's wedding dress
First reactions, this is not a dress typical of the others in our collection. As you’ve probably noticed by now we tend to
go for wedding dresses which feature yards of frills and lace rather than the more restrained designs. However, this
particular style is one we’ve had our eye on for sometime, even before young Simone so enticingly modeled it on her
wedding day and so for completeness of our collection, it was something we really needed to get our hands on.
Briefly, it is a beautiful strapless wedding dress from “Sincerity By Sweetheart” in a size UK10, (which is bust 37 inches
and waist 28.5), in ivory, with pale, shell pink flutes running vertically down front bodice and matching shell pink roses
detailing a rear waterfall like bustle over a cathedral train.
At first glance you probably think it is one of those two-piece dresses, where the bodice is completely separate from
the skirt, but not so. In fact the bodice is ingeniously linked, whilst retaining a completely separate structure, it is
attached to the skirt in such a manner than the back-lacing is not the sole meanings of fastening the dress but instead
covers a well disguised zip which continues into the top of the skirt where it is concealed behind some of the beautiful
fabric roses.
This is the kind of dress that does not look to spectacular at first glance when laid out on a bed, (like ours). Being
sleeveless, the dress lacks structure until it is enchantingly filled by a pretty young lady, such as Simone and preferably
one well stacked in the upper chest area to fill the heavily boned bodice with full breasts and eye-catching cleavage with
which to bring the dress to life.
On closer examination, however, the high quality of the dress becomes apparent. This is a heavy dress, made of weighty,
silky soft satin and the rigid structure of the bodice contrasts with the full skirt, lined with layers of attached petticoats
to give volume. Plain at the front, the back of the skirt is decorated with a very full waterfall train decorated with detailed
fabric roses and green leaves, excellently shown in the rear view picture taken at Simone’s wedding, (previous page).
