BIRGIT COMPTON'S
WEDDING DRESS MELANGE - Page nine
Ah, the special, unique charm of the wedding dress. The young bride on her wedding day in a vision of white, (or ivory) satin and
lace. What a picture. And what IS she wearing underneath, that age-old conundrum that only the bride, the bride's mother and
later the groom will ever know for sure. Is a beautiful matching white (or ivory) basque with attached suspenders holding up pale
stockings topped with a garter. We do hope so. You know, it's sad that wedding dresses only see the light of day so rarely, at
weddings, (obviously) and that other venue that those of us with a fetish for wedding dresses are so fond of, the 'wedding fair'.
Those of us with a wedding dress or two in our collection, (a quick mental count put our current collection at about eight or nine),
think it's a pity there are not more excuses for sporting these most fabulous creations, (which otherwise languish in the back of the
wardrobe), in public. Well actually there is, in Yorkshire they have an annual 'Wedding Dress Ball' at the York Race Course, (in one
of the stands, we think, not out on the track). What a splendid idea we think and apparently all raising money for charity !
If any ladies wanting to go don't have anything suitable to wear, then we've got eight (or is it nine ?) eminently suitable gowns. Details
of the next event, not available at time of going to press, will doubtless appear in due course on their very own website, where you'll
find some more pictures, at : http://www.weddingdressball.com/
