BIRGIT COMPTON'S
ALICE IN WONDERLAND FILES - Page ten
Far from our favourite Alice, this 1999 American TV version suffers from
some major deviations from the original story, an Alice who, even being
charitable, is far from pretty and most crucially, a dress which is completely
the wrong colour. Only Tina's hair even comes anywhere close to saving
the day, but we include this review for the sake of completeness.
Alice in Wonderland - 1999 film
starring Tina Majorini as Alice
The film starts off with scenes never dreamt of by Charles Dodgson and some nonsense about singing a song for some invited guests at
a garden party. Whatever happened to the boat on the river, for heaven's sake ?!
Eventually the story gets back on track, cakes, shrinking growing, all that malarkey, a prolonged swim fully dressed, which is quite nice, before finally her
hair dries out and she spends some time looking away from the camera, showing her best side, with her chestnut brown hair looking magnificent.
In summary them, further proof, as if it were needed, that the definitive film version of Alice in Wonderland remains to be made.
