BIRGIT COMPTON'S
ALICE IN WONDERLAND - Page Five
Continuing our in depth look at the dress Fiona Fullerton wore
playing Alice in the 1972 musical film version.
The front of the apron below the waist is all edged with a white ruffle
of the same material as the apron itself and the border of the plain
portion of the apron before the ruffle starts is edged with the same
peachy pink ribbon as before. The join between the edge skirts of the
apron and non-edged bodice is hidden by the pink waist sash, of
which more anon. The front of the apron is embellished by two
matching semi-circular pockets, (from which she pulls a handkerchief in
one scene), edged across the top with the pink ribbon.
The waist sash of the apron, which is fastened at the back with a large bow, accentuates the waist and gives striking
detail to the rear view of the dress. Fiona's hair is long enough to reach the top of this bow.
The bottom edge of the dress has a kind of three-tier effect in the material of the dress, although the actual hem is plain.
Beneath the dress Alice / Fiona seems to wear large frilly pantaloon things, but we never get a proper look at them as
they only before visible during the fast-moving 'action sequences' of the film.
Or was it all just a dream anyway . . . .
A few more assorted views to close this introspective.
